The first issue of TSJ’s 20th year comes with a bang. From Richard Kenvin’s profile of Tony Alva, to Butch Van Artsdalen’s Windansea capers to the origins of the Steve Lis fish and, of course, Tim McKenna’s tahiti eye candy. After 20 years we figured it was time for a bit of a facelift, and while you’ve probably noted a few very prominent changes on the front and back cover, inside we’re also coming at you with several upgrades. Most notably, up in the front of the book we’ve added several new departments; “Spin The Globe,” “The Best I Ever Saw,” and “Flashpoint” among them. Also, what was formerly known as “Page 1” has blossomed into “Spread 1,” so we got that going for us…which is nice. The format’s changed a bit in the back as well, but “Surfing Around” and “Liner Notes” are still intact for your entertainment. All told, we hope you have as much fun delving into the new TSJ as we did putting it all together. Enjoy the read.
